The Blacksmith was an important member of the community, who was responsible
for making and repairing weapons and armour, as well as shoeing the horses.

Displayed on the wall at the back is a thirteenth century horseshoe found at
the Castle.
Castles were never built unless there was a well on site. It is believed
there were two wells in this Castle, one here in the outer bailey and
another in the inner bailey, ensuring a constant supply of fresh water,
particularly important when the Castle was under siege.

In this community house, possibly up to 20/30 people would have lived,
sleeping cuddled up to their animals for warmth. The slatted windows
were covered with skins, pinned up during the day and lowered at night to
keep out the wind and rain. Baths would have been taken very
infrequently in the type of solid wooden bath you see here.
